The Hawklets continue to roll in the State Basketball tournament after the win against Lee’s Summit West on Wednesday evening, 64-59. Senior Xavier Rhodes led the charge with 27 points, and a strong Rockhurst defense held off a Titan rally in the final minutes to punch their ticket to the next round.
The Hawklets have won three games so far in the Playoffs, including wins against Park Hill South and Raytown. The team’s offense continues to strike early with strong guard play and interior strength, gaining a halftime lead in all of their games. A strong defense led by junior Dalen Ridgnal and senior Jack Murphy, coupled with clutch shooting from juniors Glenn McClintock and Tyler Nelson, has preserved Hawklet leads and pushes the team towards victory.
The team has looked stronger than ever as of late. After a slow start to the season, the 22-5 Hawklets have found their footing and continue to work together as a team. “We look good,” said junior Al Ba. “I think we are peaking at the right time.”
The Hawklets look to continue their playoff run on Saturday at 2:45 at Silverstein Eye Center Arena against Liberty.
