The month of March is good for only 3 things. Spring Break, St. Patrick’s Day, and March Madness. Though Spring Break is fun and a time to remember especially if you’re vacationing somewhere exotic, it only lasts a week. And yes, St. Patrick’s Day is usually the only time where you can ride on big parade floats, but it typically only lasts one day. March Madness is the only of the three to bring continuous glee to millions across the country for almost three weeks!
March Madness has become one of the most popular sporting events in the United States because of both the length of the tournament and the number of teams involved. Part of the reason for the phenomena has to do without the brackets. It has become extremely common in popular culture even among non-sports fans. It is estimated that millions of Americans participate in the contest every year. Employers have also noticed a change in the behavior of employees during this time. They have seen an increase in the number of sick days used, extended lunch breaks and even the rescheduling of conference calls to allow for more tournament watching.
