Little Chief – “North Carolina”
Straight out of Fayetteville, Ark., Little Chief is a folk/country fusion band. If I had to compare them to anything, it would be a more country influenced Donovan Woods. The singing toes the line between gruff country, and softer folk through the singer’s rough voice, but smooth delivery. I’m a sucker for beat changes in hip-hop, and I’m a sucker for the beat dropping out in country songs. It’s used a lot in the genre, but I’ve never heard a song take a turn for the worst because of it.
Beach House – “Silver Soul”
“Silver Soul” is exactly what one would expect out of a band named Beach House. It’s a very laid back track with melodic crooning and a sweeping instrumental provided an organ- like instrument. While “Silver Soul’ is not one of Beach House’s more popular tracks, many people have heard a version of it at one point or another as it was reversed and turned into the beat for Kendrick Lamar’s 2012 hit “Money Trees”.
The Growlers – “Going Gets Tough”
The thing that sticks out about this song the most is the little guitar riff at the beginning, which sets the mood of the song with a beachy, laid back air. The vocals and other instruments work perfectly with the song as well. But the guitar riff is what pulls the listener in, and makes them want to listen to more.
