The Hawklet soccer team is preparing for another run at the state championship this weekend with a Friday semifinal matchup against the Chaminade Red Devils. Ranked as the number one team in the nation according to MaxPrep, the Red Devils could prove to be a real challenge for Rockhurst this friday.
“We always feel prepared before a game,” Junior Keaton Schieffer said, “I think Chaminade is a quality team, but we’ve shown we are capable of beating them. We just need to execute our game plan.”
The two teams have already played each other earlier this year at a tournament in Jefferson City, with Rockhurst pulling out the victory 2-1 in overtime. This time around, the stakes are much higher, as the winner will move on to play in the State Championship game the following day.
Rockhurst is coming off of a 4-0 victory against Staley for this upcoming game.
Location: Blue Springs South
Records (Regular Season): Rockhurst 12-6, Chaminade 20-1-1
Last Game: Rockhurst beat Staley 4-0 , Chaminade beat Mehlville 3-1
State Rank (according to maxpreps.com): Rockhurst #3, Chaminade #1
Theme: Duck Dynasty
Chaminade is one of the best teams in the nation, but the Rock has proven that the Red Devils are beatable. If the Hawklets can get the job done, they will have plenty of momentum heading into the championship. “For now,” Junior John Mullen said, “we just need to focus on the task at hand.”
