Tracks of the Week: Chance the Rapper & The Social Experiment, DEERPEOPLE and Saint Motel

Chance the Rapper & The Social Experiment – Tap Dance

The underrated duo, made up of rapper Killer Mike and rapper/producer El-P, has returned, releasing a single to their upcoming new mixtape Run the Jewels 2. The beat is everything one has come to expect from an El-P beat: busy industrial samples, and a rapid pace. Like many other hip hop songs, the rapper’s style is mirrored through the beat, as both rappers approach the track as “in-your-face” as possible.  Run the Jewels 2  is being released Oct. 27, and it’s shaping up to be a solid album.

With the recent rejuvenation in popularity that folk music has experienced, many different styles of music have begun to take influences from the now commercially successful genre. DEERPEOPLE has taken the folk singing sound and backed it with a mix of different sounds, ranging from electronic to alternative rock. “New Dance” has all the makings of “that indie song that should be popular”, so hop on the bandwagon before it’s too full check and out their EP also named DEERPEOPLE.

Saint Motel – My Type

From across all genres, there are few sounds that universally appeal to people as well as a catchy jazz beat. While contemporary jazz has fallen someone out of the mainstream eye, many different non jazz-oriented artists still draw on jazz influences. On “My Type,” the indie band Saint Motel, recognizes the power of a danceable upbeat jazz clip.
