Junior John Leisman was recently selected to represent the United States of America in Argentina as part of the senior U.S. Men’s Futsal Team.
Leisman, who plays soccer and futsal for Sporting Kansas City Academy, attended a youth futsal identification camp over the summer, hoping to secure a spot on the U16 team. However, U.S. head futsal coach Keith Tozer had other plans for Leisman.
“John caught my eye as a player who could really help our men’s national team in the future,” Tozer said in an interview with the United States Youth Futsal Organization.
The team ranges from Leisman, age 16, to goalkeeper Jeff Richey, age 36.
Leisman left for a two week trip to Argentina with the men’s team on Aug. 23, to return Sep. 4 . The team will play Argentina, a team ranked #5 in the world by FIFA futsal rankings, at least three times, and may play other local teams.
“For me, it is a great honor to represent my country, and more specifically Kansas City, Sporting KC, the Rockhurst community and my family and friends,” Leisman said.
